Melissa Auld’s work fuses ideas of abstraction and colour, using paint to represent these themes. She’s also interested in texture and layering paint, using different mediums such as acrylic paint and resin to create certain surfaces. Music is a theme in her work: she uses it as an inspiration for creating the work but has become influenced to evaluate the forms made in her paintings and now focuses on layering paint to create illusions. Auld’s work is very colour orientated and the use of colour tends to be bright and striking. Her work is process driven, looking into how process can be just as fundamental as the outcome of the piece.
